Quick tech tip
If you look on a rechargable battery it will usually have an amp rating. for small batteries it normally will be milli-amps.(ex=150mah)Our church was using 125mah batteries but was suffering short useage times. We now use 150mah and the problem solved itself. There are as much as 180 mah on the market. mah is milli-amps or current sustained for one hour of useage. ex= a product using 75 mah with a 150mah battery will get you 2 hours of use. And please stay away from ni-cads, theres too much new battery technology to still be using these old tech batteries.

9 volt rechargables
There is also a 9.6 volt rechargable avalible from several locations on the web that are much more comparable to the voltages of a 9-volt alkaline. However you also need to charge these with a charger putting out 12vdc.http://www.nimhbattery.com/9v-nimh-batteries-chargers.htm

Rechargeable batteries
It is true that most NiCd "9-volt" batteries are only 7.2 volts (six cells in series inside) and will not run a wireless mic for long. Use the 8.4-volt (seven-cell) types. NiMH is definitely a better choice as these offer 150% or better the capacity of NiCd. The "memory" problem is not the result of repeated partial discharge, however; it is the result of overcharging (and resultant overheating) due to an improperly designed charger. Completely draining any rechargeable battery will needlessly shorten its life by driving one or more cells into reverse charge (the weakest cell will reach full depletion first, and the other cells will continue to force current to flow.) An excellent resource is the Anton-Bauer Battery Handbook. While this is devoted primarily to Anton-Bauer battery packs for professional video and film equipment, it outlines principles applicable to the selection and use of rechargeable batteries in general. You can read it online at www.antonbauer.com/handbook/handbook.html

Rechargeable Batteries
We use the nickel metal hydride batteries by Ray-o-Vac which claim to supply 8.4 volts and have had no problems for the past 2+ years we've used them. We do run them out after each use so we keep 2-3 batteries for each unit on hand. The initial cost is about $7 each. We also keep a few alkalines on hand for emergencies.
