WOW
The author here states that drama, video, etc. can come from outside of the church (leave it to the world for entertainment) and the church is just for worship and teaching. Hmmm. Maybe the drama can be considered worshipful--what if IT teaches.

Don't Mis-Read
I appreciate your concerns and comments. What this article is trying to say is, the purpose of the church is to reach the lost. Spending money on equipment is essential to producing good music. Yes they are tools to help lead worship. What we are saying is, the purpose of Sundays are for worship. They are not for evangelism. Churches spend so much effort and time wooing people with it's talents that we fail to spend time in worship and teach people worship. Evangelism is what we do during the week with our friends and co-workers. Worship is what we do as a body on Sundays. When we fail to teach and lead our people in worship, we fail to teach them what they were created for. God didn't say He created us to evangelize. He created us for fellowship with Him.
My church has one of the best sound systems in the country. We use it to present clear teaching and clear worship. We use it as a tool to help lead in worship and communicating teaching for our people.

Misfired Criticism
The heart of what you are saying is right on, but your criticisms are off course. Instead of bemoaning high technical appliances and production values instilled into services, I think your concerns would best be served investigating what these churches are doing with their "audience" once the "show" is over.
You ask, "When we enter the place of worship are we allowed to worship? Are we encouraged to worship? Are we taught to praise God for who He is - period? Are we taught to sing and worship Him regardless of how bad we sound? Are we taught applicable lessons from God’s word that will help us become more like the Father?"
YES! is the answer at my church, yet we have almost $300,000 invested in video equipment and the sound mixer alone was $75,000. We also invest inordinate amounts of time and energies to preparing services each week. These things are not inherently ungodly. Whether it be time, money, guitars or video projectors, they are simply tools.
They can all be used to serve God or self, but possession of the tool does not demand a verdict of guilty.

The Show must go on
Good words! We should always be aware that we are to "go into the world" to evangelize; however, churches who want to follow the Willow Creek model should remember that a key element is the worship service held midweek. The Willow model has not forgone worshiping God, they have just sacrificed the traditional Sunday morning timeslot so that more people can be reached for Christ.

Church for believers or non
Good article Leon! I too see the church being for the believers. Many church's cater to reach the non-believer. My life as a believer and follower of Christ has changed since I found a church that holds the service for the believer. I feel spiritual freedom for the first time and have been a believer for 2o years! It's a new thing for me, and I love it! I've been changed and encouraged by the power of the Holy Spirit to go into my world in "the market place" and share Christ with more love and compassion than I've ever had.

Big Show
As a person doing a job during the service, I feel the need to perfect the system. If there is a pause or problem, I feel the need to fill it of fix it. I want to enhance what I do each week. A new song here or a better mix there; flowers here or hidden mic placements there; clip art, maps, video,air-condition, or power point presentations. I would like more ideas. Thankyou. In Jesus'name.
