works for me
My S-90 has served me for about 2 years now. It has never let me down. Good enough sounds after editing them for proper use (no one uses factory presets...?). Easy to edit, fun to use and reliable on any gig or service.

Some good, some not so good
I've now had the S90 for over a year, so here's my review:

Sounds - for the most part, good. The acoustic piano needs some tweaking to be really nice 'though.

Action - great, I really like the keyboard feel.

Editing - awful, this thing has a terrible user interface. If you're into doing new sounds or actually using this as a synthesizer, it's a challenge. My Korg Wavestation has a much better interface and it's quite a bit older.

Workstation - it has a sequence player but no sequencer, which is fine for me, I prefer computer-based sequencers anyways. I have loaded a sequence onto the on-board card, played the sequence back during a church service (doing a string part) and played piano live on the keyboard while the strings were playing. Very nice.

Would I buy it again - I hate to say it but the user interface is so dated, I think this will be my first and last Yamaha synthesizer.

It is a good Synthe
Warren's comments are valid.
This synthe does not have a full sequencer built in. The sequence is a software extra which comes with the synthe. If you want that you would need to get the workstation synthe like MOTIF ES or Korg TRITON. It does have a 'performance mode' and 'song chain' feature which allow you to do simple sequencing tasks. I have not used it. But I am still learning to play.
The sounds on this board are very good. The standard sounds loaded on the board are quite diverse and easily edited or customized. I am very fond of the 3layer S700 and S700 & strings voices-these are lush piano voices with good depth. Jazz Grand and Power Grand have a brighter (to me) sound. Vintage Case has a good Rhodes sound. Actually there are a multitude electric piano sounds on this board. Strings and guitar sounds are a bit weak. Too much vibrato on the strings (I do not think this can be edited out). The guitars just don't the right feel to me. There are several organs which are very good.
We could go on and on. The best option is to go to a shop on an 'off-peak' hour and try them out. The board is not that hard to move around in.

You will get a good idea of the issues with this synthe. There is a section called 'Sanctuary' for worship use issues and the guru's there are quite good.

Couple comments on review
I'd like comment on a couple things. First, this comment: "First off, if you don't need a sequencer the S90 may not be for you." The S90 doesn't have the typical full featured on-board sequencer that the Motif line does (or other boards that do). It only has a SMF (standard midi file) playback sequencer. This will only allow for playback of midi files created somewhere else and loading in the S90.

Also, a comment on the "Weaknesses. Sounds could be better." Why this conclusion? This is a great sounding synth with superb piano, rhodes (electric keyboard) and various other sounds. While not all of them may be useable in a worship setting, the sounds a player might typically use in that setting are superb. Is your statement based on sound quality in general, or the types of sounds available? I feel the S90 would make an excellent "bread and butter" synth and is highly playable. Thanks for letting my share.
