Worship: The Other White Meat
About fifteen years ago, there was a large push to get Americans to eat more pork. If you remember the
TV commercials, the slogan was Pork: The Other White Meat. Basically what those commercials were saying
was that the staple white meat of America has always been chicken, but we want you to understand that there
is another white meat out there, and it is just as healthy and nutritious as chicken.
Now watch this segue!! Throughout Christianity, worship has been treated much like pork. We are quick to quote the nine fruits of the spirit from Galatians 5:22—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness, and self-control. But did you know that there is actually a tenth fruit, and that fruit is worship.
Eph. 5:18 through Eph. 5:21 (NIV)
18….be filled with the Spirit. 19Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs.
Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, 20always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
21Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.
Verse 18 says “be filled with the Spirit”, and when you do that there will be a fruit that will spring
forth in your life. You will begin to testify to one other and sing in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs,
you will begin to have a song in your heart to God, you will find things to be thankful for, and you will come
into unity with your brothers and sisters. All of that can be categorized under one word—WORSHIP.
Now I know you’re probably thinking, “That Henderson dude is reaching.” But back up just a few verses to Eph. 5:8.
Eph. 5:8 through Eph. 5:9 (NKJV)
8For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light 9(for the fruit
of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth),10 finding out what is acceptable to the Lord.
