A Little of Both
On one hand I agree with the author. For general listening purposes, I like hearing new songs and I get tired of the replays and remixes on the radio. I seldom buy CD's any more because they may only contain one or two new songs. But for worship, I think there are a lot of good songs out there and I don't want to learn a new song every week. Sometimes I feel like worship services are trying to show that they have the "latest and greatest" with new songs and new technology. I don't go to church to be entertained. I want to worship and it's not easy to worship when you're trying to learn a new song. I doubt I'm not the only "non-worship leader" who doesn't get excited about learning a new song.

Just maybe
I also am a called worship leader who does it for a living, and I am also frustrated with repackaging and the lack of new songs. But I disagree with one thing. "I guess these days if you can sing, you can be a worship leader." These bands and artists may be a little misguided in how they go about it. But more people need to use their voices and talents in worship. One thing I always try and do with my team is make sure that every single one of them can lead worship. Just because these artists use other people's songs doesn't mean their heart is not genuine. I feel where you're coming from. But at the same time, don't you think worship, no matter who it's by or how many times it has been sung. Everyone who can sing CAN be a worship leader and everyone who can't sing as well.

Absolutely
Many times I have said to my husband that it is so frustrating, picking up a new cd at a Christian store only to find "repetitives". There is hardly a new song on the market these days. Even the Christian radio doesn't appeal any more as far as that is concerned. I think it is more like who can revamp a song better and get more money for it than Joe Bloggs who originated it. Pretty sad really...but I suppose that's what the market is about today.....!!! Probably no longer about for the glory of the Father but $$$$$. Come on you songwriters out there...get those Spirit written songs recorded and share it with the rest of the world.. Blessings....SHOT

The Silver Lining
I can understand the view that redistributing the same songs on different CD's can seem like an attempt at extracting cash and little more. For the record lables I wouldn't be surprised if it is. Who know why the artists do it, perhaps even their motives are less than pure. However, there is an upside to all this repackaging of worship. For those who have difficulty thinking outside the box, a remix, if you will, of a song they may have previously dismissed for purely artistic reasons can be opened up to them. I know it's not much, but maybe at least its a silver lining.

Greed in Christian Music Scene
I absolutely agree with you that it is a shame that so many so called new albums have so many redone songs. Doesn't anyone write original music anymore? I think it has to do with groups being afraid to risk not selling cds. For us in the worship arena, it is discouraging and disappointing. We will not continue to buy, buy, buy. The christian music business is becoming as greedy and disingenuous as any other industry. Christian groups and recording artists need to examine their hearts. After all, are the people that purchase your albums just a source of money to you or are we a ministry?

If you're looking for something new?
Try `Marks of Christ` http://www.marksofchrist.com/index3.jspGeoff and Cory are worship leaders at our church, and have written quite a few songs. They also provide lyrics and sheet music so that other churches can incorporate the songs into their worship.

Repackaging Worship
If the MOTIVE for that album is for the Lord's glory, why not! I mean, not to ride-on the so called "big hit song" just to make an impact or have some money. Like HILLSONG MUSIC, man every year they have new songs to cater the church in worshiping the author of music. Bottomline, God wants our real worship, not the way we worship...God bless!!!
