Someplace else?
I strongly agree that worship can take place anywhere and at any time a believer is in touch with God. My opinion is: How many people actually worship God the way they should in other places?

I owned a large pleasure boat. When I was on that boat my mind was not on worship but enjoying myself and what I could see and do.

I owned a motorcycle. When I ws on that motorcycle, worshipping God didn't cross my mind.

I've been to the mountains numerous times and vacations at the beach. But do you know what my mind is on then? It's getting away from it all.

Oh, I read my Bible and Pray but when I actually worship the Father in Spirit and in Truth it's in His House not some place else.

True, but let us not forget
It is true. Worship does not need to take place in a building or on a specific site. The need for this was abolished with Christ's resurrection from the dead. Personal acts of worship, i.e. following Christ wholeheartedly, can and should be manifest on a daily basis in every environment. However, there is something incredibly unique about the Body of Christ gathering in His name for worship. Of course this could happen anywhere, but the importance lies on "who" rather than "where". In fact, the "who" is two-fold: the church (1) meeting together for the sole purpose of honoring Jesus Christ (2). We must remember the fundamental purpose of the church meeting: worship. I have heard too many people say things like, "I don't have to go to church to worship." True, but also remember "Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching." (Hebrews 10:25).

$180 Billion is a lot of money
Hi,

About 10 years ago (may be more) a saw a statistic that indicated that America has spent 180 billion dollars for places of worship! That is a lot of money to spend for a place to worship when Jesus says we should worship everywhere. You have to ask, “Is new carpet in my church going to be that catalyst that God will use to increase His worship or would the money be better spent in missions work to make more worshippers?”

To put things in perspective, America's missionary spending is 5% of the church budget (http://www.xenos.org/classes/principles/cpu4_missions.htm#Missions) and the church budget represents only 2.9% of the average church-goers salary (http://www.barna.org/cgi-bin/PagePressRelease.asp?PressReleaseID=52&Reference=E&Key=giving). Therefore less than 0.2% of Christian's salaries are going to the purpose of making more worshippers in other parts of the world. This may be because the great commission does not say to make converts (the work of missions and evangelism). However it says to make disciples and we cannot separate evangelism from the continuum of disciple-making. The chilling reality is that while America spends thousands on maintaining their places of worship we send the cold hearted message that paint and carpet in our facility is more important than giving food and shelter with an invitation to know and love God to a destitute group of people.

God change my priorities so that worshiping You with as many brothers and sisters as possible is more important than replacing the buildings light fixtures or repainting the stripes in the parking lot. Help us to live Your gospel, prefer others in love to ourselves, take care of the widow and fatherless, act like the good Samaritan and be good stewards of the gifts You’ve blessed us with as our worship to You. AMEN.

It is a lifestyle
AS you say, our worship to God does not have to take place in any one specific area or place. It must take place first and formost in the heart of the believer... then and only then is the worship a true worship. Worship is a way of living. It is living the life God has asked us to live... a life of total dependence on Him and a life of gratitude, humbleness, and acknowledgement that God is God: Holy, awesome, almighty, etc.
But we must also understand that while it is very very very important to live the life of a worshipper in our homes, jobs, schools, etc as an individual it is very important to come together to worship corporately... and there of course the place is not important, the attitude of the group is.
God bless!
