Questions
To be honest I don't like the methodizing of "worship" that was expressed in this article. I don't believe it to be biblical to set "goals" as far as leading the congregation in praise. You cannot anticipate that there will be 150 singing loudly, 50 dancing in the isles and 25 with their hands stretched to heaven. You, as the praise leader, must be obedient and leave the singing, dancing and hand raising to the Holy Spirit. To acknowledge having control over such expressions of the congregation is to claim to have power over the hearts of the congregation, which man cannot have. Rather you have power over the emotions of the congregation, the heart of it belongs to God and God alone.

Can the Pastor help?
Hi Craig,

I think that Pastor does have a lot of influence with regard to setting the tone for the congregation's response to worship. I would ask him to be part of the evaluation team. Even if your pastor can only make a short term commitment, the role of observer and evaluator can be beneficial both to your team and your goals.

Good article-question
Do you feel your pastor has a role in closing this gap? At my church, my pastors tend to talk to people and each other during the worship set distracting people and are sometimes reserved during the heartfelt times of worship. I've talked to them about this and it's gotten a little better. My opinion is that the Pastor can also help set the tone and close the gap. They are worship leaders too. Thanks
