totally agree
I cannot express enough the cry of my heart to hear the truth preached and true worship from God's people again! I am so tired of going to a church to "try this one out" as my family has done for a few years now just because we can't find one where we fit or where people genuinely love you and worship God in spirit and in truth! As Christians, we have been the visitors in so many churches, searching for a people to connect with and worship God with, but have not found it thus far! People are so occupied with other things and not God. Church has become just another place to go on Sunday. There is no reverence, and there certainly is no love. God help us not to become so complacent that we let our love wax cold! People need the Lord, they need to know that the church loves them and that there is freedom in Christ!

SPOT ON-!
It is with an aching heart that I have visited many churches in our city only to be 'entertained' for an hour-and-a-half each time. Matt Redmond's line..."I'm sorry Lord for the THING I've made it" rings more true today than when it was originally written. I have been asked to 'help the worship team improve' several times in several churches, only then to have the 'Music Pastor' tell me how what I've suggested "just won't work...that's not how they do it on the CD"!!!!!!! Dear God, help us learn to love and worship You and You Alone again! My prayer is that He will allow you, sir, to speak this message far and wide. Thank you for your boldness in speaking the truth.

Why
I am one of those people who were sincerly looking for a place to fellowship and worship God in Spirit and in truth. But all I seem to find is churches who want to entertain you with loud rock music. Is that a way to worship our All Holy GOD? Where is the reverence, the repentance, the message? A few feel good sermons to tickle the ears of the church goer. Evangelicals need to get back to the WORD OF GOD. So what if they don't have a lot of followers. I'd rather be in the minority and in heaven than decieved by wolves in sheeps clothing. Too many pastors are concerned about getting a lot of followers and have severly compromised the Word of God in the name of numbers. When asked why they play the type of music they do the reply is to draw a younger crowd. Most music has a catchy beat that captures attention and doesn't allow you to focus on the reason you are there.

Good article, and the comments as well. It is another confirmation that us, as worship leaders and pastors, shouldn't worry about the numbers. True authencity keeps people attending church. It may get "messy", but to see lives changed for the better, is worth the cost.

The Holy Spirit - the Power of the Church
Hi Steve, I have always been blessed by your articles. I pray the Holy Spirit will continue to give you wisdom and understanding. I quite agree with your views about the church because I believe we have lost focus. We are always competing with the world in music presentations [choir], speeches [sermons], acquiring properties etc, that the Holy Spirit is often relegated. Do you wonder why there's no power in the church? Most times we go to church to "fulfill all righteousness" because you dont want to sit at home, especially on Sundays. The Holy Spirit is the only One who can make a difference in our churches. We have to go back to the foundations, people have to be TRULY Born Again. Let's all Pastors and Worship Leaders remember that without the Holy Spirit we can do nothing. Please give Him His rightful place. All the best.

Bottom Line Truth
I have been a worship leader for 28 years and now am a Senior pastor in Church of Exaltation in Richmond. My sentiments and passions were just as Steve has eloquently expressed. That's why I'm developing a church like one has never seen before. People are tired of church as is. The traditional church is not producing results as it should be. People are losing more and more confidence in the church now than ever before. I'm sorry if some of you music pastors went through what I have and not had the freedom to see it to the end your passion as expressed because you didn't have the "final authority" to do so. Blessing on you

YES, YES, YES
I totally agree with what you are saying. It is time that worship becomes a tool of evangelism for the unsaved. The unsaved seeker is looking for a "real God thing" and true worship is just that. Just think what could happen when we come to the point during planning a service where WE don't try to make something happen but we just worship God during the services. This is what people are looking for and they will fall in reverance to our King of Kings!
