Thought for the Week

"And they came into the house and saw the Child with Mary His Mother; and they fell down and worshiped Him; and opening their treasures they presented to Him gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh." Matthew 2:11

If there is one form of worship missing in our churches today, it's the willingness to bow before the Lord. I'm not talking about the "bowing of our hearts" or a "spirit" of bowing; I'm talking about literally bowing on our knees. Why is it that we have such a difficult time doing this?

Throughout the Bible, there are many instances in which bowing precedes the word "worship." In fact, in most references to worship, bowing is used as an act of response.

As you begin your day, spend some time in worship before the Lord. Try kneeling before Him. This is a hard thing to do for many of us, yet if He were an earthly King, it would be normal and even be demanded in some cultures. How much more deserving is the King of kings who sent His one and only Son to die for our sins? Is He not worthy of us getting on our knees?

God is the King of ALL kings and our actions should reflect His Lordship. He is worthy of our humility. It is good for our growth as worshipers to physically humble ourselves to Him. If the goal of a worshiper is to die to self, we should not be ashamed to bow before the Lord. We will grow as worshipers as we strive to be obedient to His word in this area of worshiping Him.
