Ephesians 5:1-2 "Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God."

I'm trying to imagine being an imitator of God, and my normally racing mind is at a standstill because this bears much thought! I would show more unconditional love, I would never waver in any given situation, and my compassion for the unlovely would surpass my preoccupation with myself. I do not write these things glibly, I feel very inadequate. Someone has said, "Imitation is the sincerest form of praise", maybe that is more the key. I can imitate (to seek to follow the example), and bring the sacrifice of praise to God. He blesses the effort and it returns to Him as pleasing. I think the key word is effort, we have to make the effort.
