We, as Christians all know what He ultimately chose- eternal life for us at his own expense (remember the GRACE acrostic? God's Riches at Christ's Expense). That is the choice Jesus made- he didn't have to, but he did- all he probably would have had to do to avoid the Cross would have been to recant his claim to Messiahship before the sanhedrin and plead for his life, but he knew that the purpose of His life was to be a living sacrifice for the sins of humankind- so he willingly endured the suffering of torture and the Cross.
The article, while well intentioned, is not very well-informed theologically. As Mel Gibson said (which I am not 100% sold on every aspect of the film, but applaud the courage to make it, and make it authentic and biblically accurate) "Read the Book- it's all in there."

I find it humorous yet sad that people quote the psalmist David as saying "God bless the child who's got his own" or "When I think of the goodness of Jesus and all He's done for me, my soul cries out 'hallelujah'" as though they are scipture.
Songs themselves take artistic liberties as are found in movies, books, etc. That is fine as long as it remains true to the actual message. No matter what the medium or creative license,it should draw us back to God. I hope that no matter what people saw in the movie, that it does cause them to ask and to seek and to find God for themselves in a new and personal way.
