Break It Up
1. This rehearsal tip comes to us from DJ -
Our worship team rehearses every week on Thursday night. I start with the singers alone- at 7pm. We break at 7:30 to have a prayer and short devotion time. At that time (7:30) the
musicians are scheduled to come in, so we do our prayer/devotion time as a WHOLE GROUP. We try to finish up by 7:50. Then from 7:50 till about 8:30 or 8:45 (depending on how many songs we do) I rehearse singers and musicians together. I let the singers go at about 8:30- 8:45 and finish up with musicians. I try to be done with everybody by 9:00 to 9:15. The separate time working with singers and musicians really pays off as far as the skill quality of our band, and the prayer/devotion time really helps us to bond together and to focus on God. You may want to rehearse musicians before the singers, whatever you find works for you. My main musician (keyboard player) was always late when I rehearsed musicians first, so I switched times! I Hope it helps! -DJ

Devotion and Prayer
We always begin our choir rehearsal and worship rehearsals with prayer and a devotion. It's easy to pass this by but the people need it and it has been proven to help with rehearsing.
Keep in mind that most of these people are coming off a busy day of work and need to slow down a bit. Help them focus on what they are preparing for in the music and text. Theirs is a ministry of leadership through music and not a performance.
