Faith’s Language
By John A. White - Worship Articles - Feb 04, 2010
| | At the end of “Saving Private Ryan,” the elderly James Ryan, turns from Captain John Miller’s grave (played by Tom Hanks) and asks his wife, “Am I a good man?” Sometimes other people, with their unique perspective of our actions, are better positioned to assess the incongruities between what we think about ourselves and behavior (Romans 7:1). Although the answers can be disturbing, asking is necessary for our maturity in Christ. Examining our behavior gives voice to beliefs that we otherwise ignore or disguise. James holds the key to discerning our beliefs in light...read more |

| | The growing emphasis on fresh music and worship in our churches has caused many new worship leaders and songwriters to spring up out of our own local congregations! However, many smaller churches don't have the resources or the funds to provide resources to those budding songwriters.
There are so many new worship songs just waiting to be sung in churches all over the world, but all the songwriter can do is scribble it out on notebook paper and struggle through teaching it to the team.

Extravagant Worship, Extraordinary Praise
By Donna Patrick - Worship Articles - Jan 25, 2010
| | . . .and day and night they do not cease to say, Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord God, the Almighty. . .the twenty-four elders will fall down before Him who sits on the throne. . .and cast their crowns before the throne. . .Revelation 4:8,10 (NASB)
Your right hand, O, Lord, is majestic in power. . .shatters the enemy. And in the greatness of Your excellence You overthrow those who rise up against You; Exodus 15:6-7 (NASB)
This title may be problematic for some people because they cannot fathom the concept of "extravagant worship"; they have not yet grasped...read more |
Worship and Wait
By Donna Patrick - Worship Articles - Jan 20, 2010
| | I am led of the Lord to write this article because as much as my life is tied to the worship of God, I have also experienced periods of waiting. We know from scripture that God is a God to be worshiped. In John 4:23-24 Jesus gives us His criteria for right worship. In Revelation Chapters 4 and 5 we see a lot of kneeling and bowing going on in the heavenly realm. And the prophet Isaiah’s worship, in recognition of God’s awesome majesty, moved him to repentance. (See Isaiah 6:1-5)
But we also know from scripture that God is a God of wait. David said “...read more |
Living the Life of Worship
By Russell Henderson - Worship Articles - Jan 14, 2010
| | So here's what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don't become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You'll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immatur...read more |
Valentine's Day
By John A. White - Worship Articles - Jan 11, 2010
| | Earlier this week I found myself in the middle of what I’ll call “The Valentine Frenzy” and I didn’t do such a good job… my apologies to my family. This morning, as I reflected on what marketers call “the month of love” I realized I lacked a discipline I normally apply during Christmas; that is to press beyond the marketing, shallow and ephemeral traditions to the fundamental and essential celebration. To make the most of Christmas, we look beyond buying gifts to greatest gift – God’s son. Similarly, in February, we should be looking beyond the candy and flowers to ...read more |
Repetition - A Biblical Model
By Stephen M. Newman - Worship Articles - Jan 06, 2010
| | For years we have all heard the arguments about choruses and how meaningless it seems to repeat over and over. I came out of a traditional background and could definitely sympathize with the argument. It seemed we felt that repeating a phrase such as “God is so good” or “Father, I adore You” over and over was mere repetition and held little value and very little meat. Because of the deeper text and poetic nature of the hymns, it would appear that they may be right. After all, most of the hymns have stood the test of time for the past century.

Thinking About Being on the Praise Team?
By Donna Patrick - Worship Articles - Dec 29, 2009
| | One of the reasons King David is my favorite Biblical figure is because he knew how to construct a praise team. David did not say "Come one, come all. "The scripture tells us that David appointed individuals to minister music in the Temple. (I Chronicles 6:31). David knew how important it was that the proper atmosphere be set for God’s house. There was so much excitement over the Ark of the Covenant being brought back to Jerusalem, that, again, musical appointments were made among the Levites. (I Chronicles 15:16,19,22). Only the Levites were to carry the Ark (I C...read more |
Carrying the Presence of God
By John A. White - Worship Articles - Dec 23, 2009
| | In the previous article, we examined how David brought the Ark to Zion. We concluded with four attitudes of worship:
·Our worship must be informed by the Bible.
·We should be desiring a fresh experience with God. His mercies are new every morning; our worship should also be new every morning.
·We need to be living a life worthy of God’s presence. Worship doesn’t just happen on Sunday morning and Wednesday nights. Worship is a lifestyle of radiating the glory of God - constantly bearing the presence of God. As Paul says, “You show that you are a letter from C...read more |
